Canetta is typically Lombard, from Milan in particular even though it would seem to have been of Ossola origin, Canette, almost unique, is from Milan, Canetti has a stock in Milan, one in Parma, one between Ferrara and Rovigoto and one in Neapolitan, could derive from hypocoristic forms of the medieval name Cane (see CANE), although, in some cases, it is possible to hypothesize a connection with toponyms containing the root Canneto, such as Canneto Pavese, Canneto di Postiglione in the Salerno area or other similar ones.
