Caniglia has a stock in Theatine, one between Brindisi and Taranto, one in Naples and one between Catania and Syracuse, it should derive from a nickname originated from the Latin term canilia (wheat bran) entered in the archaic use as a caniglia (horse food) , traces of this surname can be found in Mesagne (BR) at least from the second half of the 1600s, a noteworthy figure was the Neapolitan soprano Maria Caniglia born in Naples in 1906.
