Etymological origin of Italian surname: Cantarino

CANTARINI | CANTARINO

Cantarini is a surname of the Marche, Cantarino, is practically unique, could derive from a nickname, or even from a modification of the Latin cognomen Cantaber. We find traces of this surname in the 12th century in Pisa with Cantarinus Pisanae urbis cancellarius from 1140 to 1147, and in the list of students of the University of Perugia in 1577 we find the Marche-born Philippus Cantarinus.
