Etymological origin of Italian surname: Cantiero

CANTIER | CANTIERI | CANTIERO

Cantier, almost unique, would seem to be from Friuli in Udine, Cantieri has a stock in Verona and in the Verona area and one in Capannori and Lucca in Lucca, Cantiero has a stock in Bovolone in the Verona area with few presences in Campania, could derive from dialectal nicknames originating from the term archaic Venetian cantièr (shipyard, dry dock), probably indicating that the founders worked in a shipyard or lived there in the immediate vicinity.
