Etymological origin of Italian surname: Canzian

CANZIAN

Typical of Friuli and Treviso, it derives from the Latin cognomen Cantius and Cantianus, we recall the holy brothers Cantius, Cantianus and Cantianilla who in the 3rd century moved from their native Rome to Aquileia (UD) and in 303 suffered martyrdom; in some cases there may also be a derivation from the toponym San Canzian d'Isonzo (TS).
