Capodieci has a strain in Brindisi in Mesagne, Latiano, Cellino San Marco and Brindisi, and in Trepuzzi in the Lecce area, and a Sicilian lineage in Syracuse, it should derive from the medieval term capodieci, a sort of commander of a group of armed volunteers, who they spontaneously organized in army to fight an invasion, often Saracen.
