Capone is a surname of central and southern Italy, Caponi is from northern Tuscany, Marche, Teramo, Umbria, Lazio, Puglia and Caponio which originates from the area between the provinces of Bari and Taranto, Caponnetto is typical of Catania, all these names should derive from nicknames linked to physical characteristics (large head). Very ancient traces of these surnames are found, for example, in the Alexandrian in a Recordatio terrarum of the second half of the 1100s: "... coheret: Rufinus Deta et veda. Arnaldus Caponus. III. to see. Manegotus .XX. Cardinalis autem de Medicis opera, Chigius, prudens et probus vir ab omnibus habitus, Pontificis quondam monasterium, ... ". additions provided by Giovanni Vezzelli the surname Capone, like Caponnetto, are also Sicilian (Catania, Milazzo, Pace del Mela) and as such come from the Sicilian word.capuni = capon, castrated rooster.
