Etymological origin of Italian surname: Caranna

CARANA | CARANNA

Carana, almost unique, has presences in La Spezia, and in southern Italy, Caranna, absolutely rare, would seem to have some presence in the Rimini and Messina areas, should derive from a nickname originated from the Italian term archaic caranna, a sort of oily, balsamic resin , whose name derives from the Spanish caraña, perhaps referring to ancestors who made use of it, perhaps as herbalist healers.
