Cardone is typical of the area that includes Lazio, Abruzzo, Campania, Molise, Puglia and Potentino, Cardoni is right in the central strip of Marche, Umbria and Lazio, all deriving from the apheresis of the name Riccardo. We find traces of these surnames in Narni in 1600 in an act of 1652: "... Coram illustrissimo et admodum reverendissimo vicar generals Narnie processus remissorialis pro dominis de Gregorio et Camillo de Cardonibus nominibus contra reverendissimum dominum abbatem Deodatum ...". (see also CARDONIO) additions provided by Giovanni Vezzelli Cardone as well as by Riccardo, the surname can also derive from the Italian voice 'cardo', Latin 'carduus'.
