Cargnel is very rare and seems to have two nuclei, in the Gorizia and Belluno areas, Cargnelli is Friulian, Cargnello is typical of the Udine area, it derives from the ethnic carnellus (inhabitant of Carnia), in a document written in Cividale (UD) towards the end from the twelfth century we speak of a certain Johannes Carnellus.
