Carpita would seem to originate from the Pisan dialect and another from Messina, Carpitella should be from Trapani, the surname could derive from a nickname linked to a characteristic of the area of origin, such as the presence of hornbeams, species of maple from very hard wood or fact of being very resistant as physical or could also derive from carpita (species of coarse cloth) in relation to the production or trade of that type of fabric.
