Caschetta, absolutely rare, is from the Potentino area, of Melfi in particular, Caschetto is specific to southern Sicily, Modica, Ispica, Vittoria, Pozzallo and Scicli in Ragusa and Syracuse, and Rosolini in the Syracuse area, should derive from dialectal nicknames based on lucanian term, calabro, sicilian caschetta, caschetto (box for the fruit), probably referred to laborers of the harvest of the fruit.
