Typical Lombard, in particular Milanese, it should derive from the term cascina perhaps to indicate a settler living in a farmhouse, but it is also possible a derivation from toponyms such as Cassina De Pecchi (MI) or other similar ones, traces of this surname can be found in the Code Diplomatic of medieval Lombardy in a deed of sale of 1168 drawn up in Milan: ".. year dominice incarnationis milleximo centeximo sexageximo octavo (a), tenth die mensis decembris, indictione secunda. Constat nos Anselmum qui dicor Cassina, filium quondam Iohannis, de civitate Mediolani, ... ".
