Cavestri is typical of the area that includes the provinces of Milan, Varese and Verbania, with maximum concentration in Lonate Pozzolo in the Varese area and in Omegna and Nonio in the Verbanese area. Cavestro, typically Venetian, is from the Paduan area, in particular of Monselice with a good spread also in Padua, Este, Solesino and Pernumia, they could derive from nicknames originating from the medieval term cavestro (mast knot, halter) of which we have an example in a writing of the year 1468 in Canneto sull'Oglio in the Mantua: "... dapoy debia to be impicted in the company by a certain wood, for Nuy deputado, for the minister de la justicia, cum a horseman with the golla, for so and so made so that el does not die, but that he finds it difficult for a pezo, and dapoy the head must be touched in such a way so that the soul from the body is separated ....
