Chiarella has an important stock in Borgia (CZ) and in Catanzaro and one in Polignano A Mare and Molfetta (BA) and in the Foggia area, Chiarelli is Panitalian, Chiarello has strains scattered throughout Italy, in the Vicenza area, in Salento, in Calabria and in Sicily, they derive from the medieval name Clarella - Clarellus of which we have an example in the Chronicle of Salimbene from Parma in 1200: "... In isto autem exercitu erat quidam frater laycus ex Order Minorum, natione Paduanus, nominations Clarellus, quem vidi et bene cognovi ... ".
