Etymological origin of Italian surname: Chiri

Chiri has a Piedmontese lineage in Turin and Alpignano in the Turin area and in Barge in the Cuneo area, and one in the Lecce area in Sanarica and in Muro Leccese above all, Chirini, Chiro and Chirotti are practically unique, Chirolli, almost unique, has some presence in the Neapolitan, Chirollo has a stock in the Neapolitan dialect at Afragola and Castello di Cisterna, all these surnames should derive, directly or through various hypocoristic forms, from the Greek name Chiros, or from ethnic forms of the city of Chiros in Greece or from that of Chirus in Romania or, more probably from nicknames based on the Greek term chiros (hand), perhaps to indicate the particular physical characteristics of the founders.
