Cicogna is present in the peninsula with patches of leopard, a Venetian stock, and an Umbrian one, but there could be one in the Milanese too. Cicognani is decidedly Romagna, with maximum concentration in the Ravenna and Forlì areas and significant presence also in the Bolognese and Rimini areas, Cicognini is of central southern Lombardy, Cigognini is typical of the Milanese and Lodi area. These surnames would derive from nicknames linked to the fact that a stork nested on the progenitor's house, or derived from toponyms such as Cicognara (MN) or Cicognolo (CR). The emblem is that of the Cicogna Conti of Peltrengo.
