Etymological origin of Italian surname: Circhirillo

CHICCHIRILLO | CHIRCHIRILLO | CIRCHIRILLO

All decidedly Sicilian, Chicchirillo, absolutely rare, is specific to Palermo, Chirchirillo is specific to Palermo, Trabia and Altavilla Milicia, Circhirillo is native to the area, Alessandria della Rocca in the Agrigento area and Palermo, all these surnames should derive from nicknames based on the Sicilian dialectal term chicchrìddru (top of a mountain, summit of the mountain, but also of the head), perhaps to indicate that the founders came from a very high area of a mountain or that they had a particular conformation of the head with the upper part more convex.
