COMANDU'

Two stocks, one of the provinces of Turin and Cuneo, the other of the provinces of Milan and Lodi, could derive from a contracted modification of the name Giacomo. Giacomand, Giacomass and Giacomù are dialectal expressions that refer to the name Giacomo, Giacomandù is not unlikely as a dialectal deformation of Giacomand and Comandù is the apheresis of Giacomandù. Traces of this surname date back to 1700: a Comandu father in 1708 was in the mission of San Javier in Mulege in Mexico, in 1782 the painter Giovanni Comandù painted a canvas for the church of Santa Croce in Rivoli (TO).
