Etymological origin of Italian surname: Eremita

EREMITA | EREMITI | EREMITO | REMITI | REMITO

Eremita has an Apulian stock at Tricase in the Lecce area and Ruvo di Puglia in the Bari area, and presences in the Campobasso, Caserta and Catania areas, Eremiti and Eremito are almost unique, as are Remiti and Remito, which should all be altered forms of the first, which should derive from names of places containing that root, or even from nicknames originated from the life settings of the founders (see also ROMITA).
