Ferrini is typical of the belt that includes Tuscany and Romagna, regions where it is much more widespread, Marche, Umbria and Lazio, Ferrino is typical of western Piedmont, should derive from the medieval name Ferrinus, or even from a nickname originated from the activity of blacksmith, traces of these surnames can be found as early as 1158 in a Carta venditionis, investiture et guadie written in Gudo (MI): "... Et ibi dedit guadiam iamdictus Albertus Ferrinus eidem Belvisae, suae spouses, de dandis et reddendis eidem Belvisae suae vel suis heredibus solidos tres et denarios octo, qui fuerunt precium de sua porcione que supra Belvise, suprascripte vendiçionis ... ".
