Ferrous is practically unique, Ferroso is almost unique, it should be altered forms of Ferrusi surnames, very very rare, which is specific to the Aquila, Sulmona in particular, and Ferruso, now practically disappeared, who seems to have been of Calabrian origin and Sicilian, the origin of these surnames would seem to have been a medieval nickname, probably named Ferrusus or Ferrosus, with the sense of hard as iron, to indicate a physical or character resistance of the founders.
