Etymological origin of Italian surname: Fogato

FOGATI | FOGATO

Fogati is unique and is probably a transcription error of Fogato which is typical of the Rovigoto, Crespino, Rovigo and Adria, it could derive from nicknames that are somehow related to the fogo (fire) or because the progenitor worked for a blacksmith and took care of keeping the fire alive, or for other reasons.
