Etymological origin of Italian surname: Gennatiempo


Cenatiempo is typical of Barano d'Ischia and Ischia, on the island of Ischia in the Neapolitan and of Naples, Genatiempo, absolutely rare is of the Neapolitan, it would seem due to a wrong transcription of the surname Gennatiempo, which, very rare, is specific to Salerno, we remember with this surname the painter from Campania Girolamo Cenatiempo born in Naples towards the end of 1600 and whose works from the beginning of the 1700s arrive until 1742, the origin is obscure, it could derive from a dialectal transformation of a nickname attributed to a a truly phlegmatic progenitor, but this is only a simple hypothesis, together with the more probable derivation from a dialectal adaptation of the French name Jean-Etienne, which may have been brought by the progenitor.
