Etymological origin of Italian surname: Irrera

Irrera is specific to Messina, but it is also well represented in Milazzo in the Messina area, and in Catania, it could be an apheretic form of the name of the town of Pirrera on the island of Lipari, probably the place of origin of the founders, but it could also be of a dialectal Italianisation of the Spanish surname Herrera, which was based on the trade of blacksmith, probably carried out by the Spanish founders.
