ISMONDI

Ismondi, almost unique, is probably Lombard, but certainly from northern Italy, it should derive from Ismondus, an apheretic form of the name Sigismundus, a Latinized form of the Germanic Sigmund, we remember with this name the Count Palatine, Ismondo sent in 772 by the King of Italy Pepin, son of Charlemagne, in Brescia to conquer the city to the Frankish cause, a story also reported in the Adelchi by Alessandro Manzoni.
