Langiu is typical of northern Sardinia, of Olbia, Oschiri, Tempio Pausania and Monti in Gallura, of Sassari and Ozieri in the Sassari area and of Nuoro, it should derive from a nickname based on the Sardinian word làngiu (thin, dry, haggard), probably to emphasize a particular thinness of the founders.
