LICANDRI | LICANDRO

Licandri is specific of the Catania area, of Paternò and Belpasso, Licandro is typically Sicilian, of San Pietro Clarenza, Catania and Mascalucia in the Catania area, of Messina and of Palermo, with a stock also in the Reggio area, according to some derives from a nickname originating from the Greek terms lykos (wolf) and andras (man), with the meaning of werewolf or wolf man, but, most probably, it derives from a dialectal modification of the name Nicandro (see NICANDRI).
