LO RUSSO | LORUSO | LORUSSO

The Russian is present as a leopard spot in the centrosud, whereas Lorusso is typically Pugliese, Loruso is unique and it is probably a transcription error of the previous one, they should all derive from dialectal nicknames linked to a characteristic red hair coloring, or even peculiarities of the place where the family lived, as a red cottage or near red elements. We find traces of these surnames in Puglia since the second half of the 1500s, when Antonio Lorusso was cited as a seller in a deed of sale in Monopoli.
