The Schiavo has a stock in the Neapolitan dialect in Naples and Castellammare di Stabia and in the Salerno area in Castellabate and Angri, in Calabria, especially in the Reggio area, and in Sicily in Messina, Lipari, Santa Teresa di Riva and Antillo, and in Catania, Loschiavo, plus rare, has a stock in Modugno in the Bari area, one in Matera and in the Reggio area in Taurianova, Lo Schiavone is almost unique, Loschiavone, extremely rare, would seem to Noicattaro (BA). additions provided by Stefano Ferrazzi Lo Schiavo, present from north to south of the country, is more typically southern, with major stocks in the Messina, Catania, Vibonese, Reggio Calabria, Naples and Salerno areas, Loschiavo, less common than the previous one, yes most frequently found in Bari, Matera and Reggio, Lo Schiavone and Loschiavone, very rare, seem to be both originating from Bari, all these surnames derive either from the medieval name Schiavo or from the same slave term, which originally meant simply Slavic native or coming from Slavic countries; historically, however, the present meaning of servant arises following a long war conducted by Otto the Great and his successors against the Slavic peoples, in which many prisoners of these countries, in fact, were first split between the warriors of the Germanic empire and then reduced to a state of slavery (so that, over time, the term slave assumed the meaning of servant par excellence).
