Etymological origin of Italian surname: Loredan


Loredan, extremely rare, should be Istrian from Trieste, Loredani, almost disappeared is probably a transcription of the first, derived from the medieval name Lauretanus, of which we have an example with the procurator of the Serenissima (podestà Alvise Loredan) Aloysius Lauretanus cited in De bello Constantinopolitano from Paolo Ramusio in 1500, an Istrian noble family with feudal possessions since the 1500s, had important personalities throughout the territory of the Serenissima.
