Etymological origin of Italian surname: Losco

LOSCO

Losco is a surname typical of Campania, of the Avellinese, of Atripalda and Avellino, of the Neapolitan, of Naples, Torre Annunziata and Boscoreale, and of Benevento, it should be a surname attributed to foundlings, for which the officials of the institutions that they had welcomed, perhaps they had referred to the appearance of those who had abandoned them, but in some cases they could also be apheretic forms of hypocoristic dialects of Greek names such as Aetolos, Aischylos, Attalos or other similar ones.
