Losno is specific to Albenga and Vendone in the Savona area. additions provided by Giovanni Vezzelli Ligurian surname that could come from the ancient Genoese dialect 'losno' = gleam, lightning. This dialectal entry is common throughout the north: p. es. in Modena it is said 'lòsna', as indeed also in ancient Lombard and also 'lusnèda' to say 'lightning'; in Piedmontese 'slussié' = flashing, etc. Obviously all these voices derive from the Latin lux, lucis = light.
