PAPALE | PAPALI

Papale has a stock in Rome, one in the Caserta area in Santa Maria Capua Vetere, with significant presences in San Tammaro, Caserta, Bellona, Casagiove and Sparanise, and one in Sicily, where it is widespread in Catania in Catania, Gravina di Catania, Caltagirone and Mascalucia, and in the Messina area, in Messina, Santa Lucia del Mela and Castroreale, Papali, almost unique, would seem to be of the Catania area and is probably due to a transcription error of the previous one, which could derive from the fact that they were the founders in the service of a Orthodox religious, one cannot however exclude a possible connection with the Latin name Papilius (see also PAPILI).
