Paolocci is typical of north-central Lazio and Terni, Paolacci is specific to central Italy, has a strong nucleus in Lazio and more stocks in the Lucca area, and on the border with the Marche and Umbria, Paoletti specific to the center, with a good spread also in the north of the country, it also has stocks in the Neapolitan, Benevento and Foggia areas, Paoletto is typical of Verona and of Sarcedo and Carrè in the Vicenza area, Paolocci is typical of north-central Lazio and Terni, Paoluzzi has a Friulian stock in the Udine area, in Buttrio, Premariacco and San Giorgio di Nogaro, an Emilian in Ferrara and in Carpi in the Modena area, one in Penna in Teverina in the Terni area and one in Rome and Albano Laziale in the Roman area, Pauletti is specific to Feltre in the Belluno area, all derive from hypocoristic or pejorative modifications of the Latin cognomen Paulus (small).
