Etymological origin of Italian surname: Peretti

PERETTI | PERETTO

Peretti, quite widespread, seems to have more stocks, in Piedmont, western Lombardy, Verona and Vicenza, southern Marche and in the province of Rome, Peretto has a Piedmontese stock, especially in Turin in Settimo Vittone, Turin, Mercenasco and Carignano , and a Venetian one, especially in the Vicenza area, in Valdagno, Altavilla Vicentina, Rosà, Montecchio Maggiore, Castelgomberto and Cornedo Vicentino, in Fiesso Umbertiano in the robigoto and in Castagnaro in the Verona area, with a small stock also in Sardinia in Alghero in the Sassari area, they should derive from the medieval name Perettus, a modification of the name Pietro; of this surname we have traces for example in 1500 with Cardinal Alexander Perettus, grandfather of Pope Sixtus V.
