Petazzi is typically Lombard, in the area that includes the Milanese, the Como area and the Varese area, Pettazzi has a small Milanese stock, one from Turin and one very small from Quattordio nell'alessandrino, Petazzini, absolutely rare, it would seem to be from Mantua, Petazzo, very very rare, it would seem Friulian, Petazzoni is from Emilia in the area that includes the Ferrarese, the Bolognese and the Modena area, Pettazzoni, also from Emilia, is specific to the Modena area, Bologna, Bologna and Crevalcore in Bologna in particular and to Modena and Castelfranco Emilia in the Modena area, with branches also in Cento in the Ferrara area, should all derive directly or through hypochoristic or accretive, from dialectal modifications of the name Petrus, through the modifications in Petrass and later in Italianized Petass then in Petazzo.
