PICCHEREDDU | PICHEREDDU

Picchereddu and Pichereddu, absolutely rare, are typically Sardinian. additions provided by Giuseppe Concas PICCHEREDDU; PICHEREDDU: they are two very rare surnames, present in some centers of central Sardinia, apart from Sassari. We believe they have the same meaning and the same origin. They could derive from piccheddu (to the diminutive), which in the dialects of high Sardinia designates a cup of wood or wicker or other (see Picchedda). Or it could derive from piticcu (pittìu, piccìu, pitzinnu, piccinnu = piccolo). Here in Campidano to designate a thing, an animal, a very small person we say: "Est, piccherrédda / uo piticherrédda / u"!
