Etymological origin of Italian surname: Picchetto

PICCHETTI | PICCHETTO

Picchetti has various stocks, in Verbanese and Varese, in the Bergamo area, in the Venetian area and in the Treviso area, in Pisa, in the Ravenna and Forlì areas and in the Roman area, Picchetto, much rarer, has some presence in Liguria and Lazio, should derive from the name and nickname medieval Pichettus, of which we have an example of use in the Registers of the Fabbrica of the Duomo of Florence, where under the year 1416 one can read of: ".. Pichettus Coveri et Iacobus Filippi vocatus Pichettus ..", however, could also derive from nicknames attributed to capostipiti bearers of pike (medieval weapon).
