Pevere is typically Friulian from Udine, Pozzuolo del Friuli, Muzzana del Turgnano and Udine, with a small stock also in Ferrara, Peverotto, practically unique, it would seem an alteration of Pivirotto, which is specific of Vodo Cadore in the Belluno area, Piverotto, extremely rare, would appear to be Venetian, all these surnames should derive, directly or through hypochoristic forms, from nicknames originated from the Venetian word pever or piver (pepper), perhaps to indicate a particularly pungent character of the progenitor.
