Present especially in Puglia, it has strains also in Ravenna, in Upper Lombardy and in Turin, the most plausible hypothesis is a derivation from the Latin name Restus of which we have an example in an ancient tombstone: "... Tiburtinus decanus hab (ET)/filium Adcrescentem/Ianuarius circit (or) sine/Filiis/Restus circit (OR) hab (ET)/Filios IIII Sabatium/qui et ipse hab (ET) fil (iOS) Restu/tum et Augurinum... ", it could also derive from a locality name.
