Scala is a Panitaliano surname, with many nuclei, in Verona, in Sudmilano and Lodigiano, in Genoa, in Bolognese, in Neapolitan and, in Sicily, in Catania, Syracuse and Ragusano, Scali has a Genoese strain, a Tuscan one, especially concentrated in Leghorn, Pisa, Florence and Siena, and one in the Reggino, should derive from the various toponyms containing the scale root, such as: Isle of the Staircase in Verona, La Scala in Pisa, Madonna of La Scala in Turin, Santa Maria La Scala in Neapolitan, Scala (ME)-(SA)-(CS), and So many others, but it is also possible a derivation from the Germanic medieval name Schal.
