Toti seems to have a strain in Tuscany and one in Lazio, Toto is well spread throughout the Peninsular Centre, Totti has a nucleus between Bologna and Florence and a secondary strain, perhaps, in Vicenza, Totò is specific to Piceno, Fermo, Porto Sant'Elpidio and Civitanova Marche , should derive from the Italian medieval name Toto, apheretic abbreviation of the name Benedict and in some cases the name Salvatore. We find in Bergamo a Zanillo de Tottis towards the end of 1500, in 1600
