VASILE

Vasile has a specific nucleus in Trivento (CB), a strain in the Bari, strains in Sicily to Vittoria (RG), Syracuse and Floridia, Ragusano and Agrigentino, the surname derives from a modification of the Greek name Basileios. Additions provided by Prof Vito Zullo the surname Basile or Vasile is described, alternately, in a notarial deed of 1572 drawn up by the notary Stefano de riccha seu de baccilleriis of Cassano (now delle Murge-Bari). In the act we read (in the first part): "... Ex a part et Venerabiles virj Francescus et Marinus Stephanj de Basile fres ^ (brothers)... ", (second part):"... Sup. TI (above) Francescus et Marinus Stephanj de Vasile fres ^... ", (finally):"... Legatam p.to (predicted) Monasterio p. quondam Basilius de Basile eius de terre et P. ti (predicted) fres ^ (brothers) Stephj de Vasile et Angeli de Vasile... ".
