Venzi has various strains, one to Lanzada in the Sondriese, one in San Pietro in Gu in Padua, one in Cesena, Forlì and Ravenna and one in Rome, Venzo instead is decidedly Veneto, Del Vicentino, Bassano del Grappa, Villfare and Vicenza, could derive through the phenomenon of Betacismo from the medieval name benzo (see Benzi), but it is also possible to derive from contracted forms of the name Vincenzo or Vincentius, of this use we have an example in a script of 1279: "... D. Rozerius de S. Blasio stetit et presentavit coram dicto iudice.in mane et sero usque ad campanam pulsatam.et presentavit. Testes suos quos vult produce in Placito quod habet the Venzo de Ramazano... ". Additions provided by Giovanni Vezzelli Venza is the surname Pugliese that for G. Rohlfs, Dictionary of surnames Salento, 261 derives from the toponym Avenza in the area of Massa Carrara. For Minervini Diz. Full. Pugl. 511 is instead an abbreviated of the surname Vincenzi. For Caracausi Diz. Sicilian onomastics II 1697 both hypotheses are valid.
