Vidili is a typical of Oristano, the "Paulilatino", Bonarcado and Bosa, with a strain also in Sassari. (see surname IDILE) additions provided by Giuseppe Concas VIDILI: Bidìle/I; On Idìle/i = Pool of water, marshes, marshy place, but also spring, synonymous of Sciòffa, Buludrau, Baulodru. Sos Bidileddos = locality of Gennargentu. The word is of uncertain etymology. The Wagner suggests the Basque itìl, but it means sea, but it agrees in its form and meaning. Other scholars refer to the toponym Gitil, also present as surname in the Condaghi of St. Peter of Silki, CSPS, XI °, XIII ° century and St. Nicholas of Trullas, CSNT XI °, XIII ° century. Gitil is also the name of an abandoned village, not well identified, according to some located in the territory of Mulargia. On the derivation of Bidìli by Gitil does not agree the Wagner, which in addition to the voice of the Basque itìl suggests the Latin voice bibit-ile (freely > place where one drinks) phonetically acceptable. The surname is present in medieval documents. Among the signatories of the Peace of Eleanor, Lpde of 1388, figure Bidili Nicolao-de Bosa * * bosa: Omnibus fidelitas et habitatoribus civitatis Bose. Nisi pastores. Congregatis intus ecclesiam beate Marie Virginis. Die XV Januarii 1388. De Gitil is instead present in the above mentioned Condaghi. The CSPS include: Gitil (DE) Dericcor, 85 °; Gitil (DE) Gosantine, testis, 93 °; Gitil Bosovekesu, testis, 93 °. In the CSNT there are: De Gitil Comita (43); De Gitil Furata (162/220); De Gitil Gunnari (248/277/280/294/300), Armentariu de sigillu (in the administration of tax assets); De Gitil Helene, wife of Petru de Nurki (180). Currently the surname Vidili is present in 80 Italian municipalities, of which 43 in Sardinia: Oristano 65, Paulilatino 65, Sassari 44, etc.
