Vir literarum amans viglius zuichemus iurisconsultus palladis effigy Literas suas obsignabat... ". Additions provided by Giovanni Vezzelli Viglia is a variant of the Ghiglia surname. It is diffused in the form Viglia in Piedmont, Emilia and Campania. It has at the base the medieval names Ghìglia, Guìglia, Vìglia and Biglia (cf. Guiglia's name in the province of Modena). It comes from the name William which, in turn, comes from the germ staff. Wilhelm, composed of A.A.T. Willio = will + A.A.T. Helm = Elmo. The meaning is roughly: Elmo of the Will.
