XIMENES

Very rare are found secondary lineages in the Cagliari area and in the Catania area, a family formed in Portugal which appears to be originally of Spanish Jews who, converted to Christianity towards the end of the 15th century, took the surname of the forefather's godfather by surname. In the first half of the 1500s the Ximenes, dedicated to the trade of goods from the Americas, became one of the richest families in Europe.
