Zotta has a stock in the lower Trentino and one between Salerno, above all Potentino, Materano and Barese, Zotti has a core in the Bari area and one in the Benevento area, but with small, perhaps secondary, stocks here and there in northern Italy, Zottin, absolutely rare, it is specific of the Treviso area and so also Zottini, even more rare, Zotto, very rare, however, is still from the Veneto, should derive from the apheresis of dialectal modifications of names such as Giorgio (Zorzoto), Lorenzo (Lorenzoto) etc., but it is also very likely a derivation from the Lombard name Zotto of which we have several examples in the Longobard Diplomatic Code, for example in the year 715, in the Capitular archive of Arezzo it can be read: "... nam tempore suo quondam Uuilerat et eius filius Zotto eum a fundamentis restaurauerunt. .. ", we also remember Zotto Duca di Benevento:" ... Fuit autem primus Langobardorum dux in Benevento nomination Zotto, here in ea principatus est for curricula viginti annorum ,,, ".
