Both Ligurian, Aicardi is widespread in the provinces of Savona, especially in Tovo San Giacomo, and Imperia, Aicardo, much rarer, it would seem Savona, derive from the medieval name of Germanic origin Aicardus of which we have an example in a charta venditionis of September 1045 in Brescia Diplomatic Code where the notary thus signs: "... Aicardus notarius subscripsit postradita complevit et dedit". We find traces of these surnames in the early 1400s with the Bishop of Novara Bartolomeo Aicardi Visconti.
